The Therapies
Just in case you’re curious, here’s a bit more about each of these therapies:
Esalen: One of the aims of Esalen style massage is to help you live more comfortably in your own body, integrating body, mind and spirit. It uses long flowing strokes over the whole body, helping to release the stresses of your everyday life.
Circulatory: This therapy is the most common healing method. Using pressure, tension, vibration or motion on different parts of the body, it enhances the proper flow of blood throughout your entire body.
Swedish: This technique involves using the hands, forearms or elbows to work on the superficial layers of the muscles. The specific techniques are long gliding strokes, friction, kneading and tapping movements on the soft tissues of the body.
Deep Tissue: This therapy focuses on working on layer by layer of connective tissue and muscles, down to the deepest accessible layers to change posture and create more freedom of movement.
Lomi Lomi: This technique is best known for long, flowing strokes using the forearms and generous amounts of oil. The specifics of the massage can vary. Gentle stretches and joint rotations are often used by massaging two parts of your body at the same time.
Acupressure: This type of massage triggers key points in the body by applying gentle pressure. The therapy revolves around the theory that your body has a natural balance, and if this balance gets disturbed, it can result in pain and other medical conditions.
Shiatsu: This technique involves applying pressure to certain points or areas on your body to relieve tension and pain and to maintain physical and mental well-being. It uses thumbs, fingers, elbows, and knees to focus pressure at certain energy pathways in the body called meridians.
Trigger Point Therapy: A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes referral pain in other parts of the body. Trigger point massage therapy focuses on the source of the pain in order to release the constricted areas through cycles of isolated pressure and release.
Passive & Active Full-Body Stretching: Passive stretching is a technique in which you’re relaxed and your muscle is relaxed, and I assist with the stretching. I do all of the heavy lifting. Active stretching stimulates a muscle as you are resisting.
Sports Massage:
Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. It involves a combination of deep tissue techniques, stretching, and targeted pressure to alleviate muscle tension, improve flexibility, and prevent injuries. Ideal for athletes, this therapy is often used before or after intense physical activity to boost circulation and reduce muscle soreness.
Therapeutic Massage:
Therapeutic massage focuses on addressing specific health issues or conditions through targeted techniques. It blends methods like deep tissue, trigger point, and relaxation techniques to alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve overall physical function and well-being. The approach is customized to the client’s unique needs, whether for injury recovery, chronic pain management, or general relaxation.
